Dear Parents & Caregivers,
It is a requirement of SafeWork NSW for all workers on a work site to have completed the general construction induction training. The Construction Induction Card (White Card) provides proof of completion of this training.
It is now a mandated requirement for all Year 11 and Year 12 Entertainment students to complete the Construction Induction Course (White Card), as the Entertainment industry often involves constructing staging and event structures. This is known in the industry as bump in (set up) and bump out (pulling down).
Without the Construction Induction Card (White Card), students will not be allowed to attend work placement. As work placement is a mandatory requirement, students will receive a “N” determination for the course should they not complete 70 hours work placement. This will result in the student failing the Entertainment course and may jeopardise the student’s eligibility to be awarded a Higher School Certificate.
To obtain the Construction Induction Card (White Card), students will need to complete a 6- hour course and examination with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). At the completion of the course, students will need to present to their Entertainment teacher a copy of their Certificate and Construction Induction Card (White Card).
This year, Mr. Kieron Monk, under the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta RTO, will deliver the Construction Induction course at Marian Catholic College. The course will be delivered in TWO school days on the 6th & 7th May 2020 at the college. It will begin at 9.15am and finish at 3.15pm. It is essential that all students are present throughout the Two-day delivery of the course. Should a student be absent on either day, it will the student’s responsibility to complete this course with an external provider at their own expense and provide Marian Catholic College with a copy of their transcript from the course by Friday 26th June 2020 (Week 9 Term 2).
The cost of the course will be $29 per student. This will cover the cost of SafeWork NSW processing and issuing the student’s Construction Induction Card. This is a significant saving to the students and parents as private RTO’s can charge up to $120 per student.
Students must provide their own industry approved safety glasses on the day for the practical examination.
Students need to pay the $29 fee via the Trybooking link, along with the signed acknowledgement slip below by the 27th March 2020.
Should you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Andrew Hudson (Entertainment Teacher) .
