Dear Parents & Caregivers,
As part of the Marian Catholic College PDHPE program, all Year 8 students will be participating in a swimming and lifesaving program over two days at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope Gardens and Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre, Baulkham Hills. Students will have the opportunity to complete a ‘Swim and Survive’ Lifesaving Award endorsed by the Royal Lifesaving Society in Australia.
The awards will cater for all levels of swimming ability with each student choosing their award in a PDHPE class prior to the lifesaving program. As part of the PDHPE practical assessment, students will be expected to complete their award by participating in the practical and theory components throughout the program. If any student is unable to participate because of a medical reason, they should bring a note signed by a parent/guardian before the program begins. Students that are unable to swim due to injury or illness will still attend and complete the land rescues of the practical component and theory sections. Attendance is compulsory and there will not be any normal lessons for Year 8 during the two days of lifesaving.

|What to bring:||Students must bring a hat, sunscreen, swimmers, towel, recess, lunch (canteen facilities will be available at recess and lunch), and a pen. Please also bring a long sleeve shirt and long pants to be worn in the pool. |
|Uniform:||Marian Sports Uniform, including College Bag or College Sport Bag. Students should wear swimmers underneath or change at the pool. Sport shoes must be worn on the bus and at school.|
|Transport:||Students will be travelling to and from the venue by bus from the College.|
|Cost:||Payment for this excursion was made by returning the ‘whole school activities’ acknowledgement slip which was issued in Term 1.|
When a student successfully passes their award, they will then be presented with their award from the RLSSA.
